Patrick Kaa asked: If you’re going to make your own car run on electricity then you need to get a hold of Electric Car plans that can show you how to make these hybrid vehicles from scratch. Considering the current economic climate and rising fuel prices its not a bad idea at all.
Making these hybrids that run on power requires a few things that can be found at home and bought at the hardware store. And the good thing is building an electric hybrid doesn’t require you going down to the car dealer and buying one for 70k. The best and cheapest way to make an electric car is downloading a manual that contains detailed plans and designs that can get the job done DIY style for a small budget of $300.
If you do a search online you will find sites that offer step by step manuals and tutorials that show you how to build an electric hybrid carand how to make a electric car conversion kit and install it into your vehicle.
You can convert any vehicle into an powered hybrid and with good electric car instructions you can do it by yourself with no prior experience needed.
Just imagine driving down the road and passing by the gas station knowing that you have to need to stop there and refuel at all. You’ll save money and time and also be comforted that you’re not polluting the environment by emitting any toxic gases into the earths atmosphere.
Certainly with the global economy the way it is its reassuring that we have some cheaper options out there that can provide us some help on our budgets.

Bill Temple asked: You’ve decided to build your own electric car and now you need reliable electric car plans. We’ve found some good plans that we will share with you to get you started.
First, what do you need to begin?
· Simple tools found in any household workshop- saws, drills, wrenches etc.
· A place to work- shop, garage, barn or even outside is fine
· Detailed electric car plans
Before you get started you will need a vehicle to do the conversion with. I say conversion because any vehicle will work for this project, but some are better than others. Gas or diesel doesn’t matter as you will be removing the engine anyways, and everything related to fuel and exhaust.
Your new electric car will produce no fumes either. We think that’s great.
You will need a vehicle with a standard transmission though. Automatic transmissions just don’t work with electric motors for cars.
Don’t worry; you won’t have to learn how to drive a standard though if you don’t know how. Your electric car will drive just like an automatic. Just put it in gear and drive. It’s that easy, no shifting in town at all.
When you pull up to the stop light for instance the electric motor just stops. It’s all explained in detail in the electric car plans.
Your new electric car will have great acceleration too. We were amazed at how fast it was off the line in town.
Your electric car will be able to go 50 mph and have an effective range up to 200 miles on a single charge depending on your choice of vehicles and your driving habits.
We kind of lean towards using small trucks now that we have done 3 conversions ourselves. Small trucks like the older Toyota Tacoma (around 1995 or so) offer a lot of room for battery placement. They are light and strong too, a perfect combination for this project.
Small cars work well too, but offer fewer options for battery placement.
Our best range vehicle is actually our Toyota Corolla, well over 200 miles between charges.
This is not a difficult project either although you will need a helper at times. Those extra hands when you are attaching the DC motor are needed.
How much does it cost?
You can build your own electric car for only a few hundred dollars (including the cost of the detailed plans). If you use the sources of free batteries and free DC motors found in the electric car plans you can keep the cost down to a very reasonable level.
Imagine the first time you drive by a gas station while others are filling up. Did you know that gas is expected to reach $7 per gallon next year?
Isn’t it time you did your own electric car conversion? Let’s get started.
Electric Car Plans is the best place to start to do your own conversion and stop paying outrageous gas prices at the pumps; it really isn’t that difficult and makes a great family project with detailed electric car plans.
Battery Power Cars

John Bigman asked: The electric car presents a different set of cabling. Unlike the conventional internal combustion engine, the electric car will need more wiring for its operation. This comes from the simple fact that it runs on batteries and the main connection to these devices is cables.
For the reason that it needs so much electric energy, the cabling system of the electric car will have to be more versatile and durable than the ordinary ones.
The cable for the electric car will have to be made from 2/0 cable. For it to work, it must have heavy duty strands. If they are too stiff, they will not work. For power to flow easily and consistently, the strands must be flexible. Many electric car conversion kits use the same type of wiring for welding. It has the ability to bend around corners and will not break easily.
It is essential that you use the right kind of cable for your electric car so you can be assured of power flow all the time.
Many companies are using the much standardized Anderson connector. These are can be specially made for the market. These cables can be easily separated and comes ready for use on the electric car. Ordinary you may have to purchase cables from the market and then modify then for use. Aside time wasting, these cables may not meet the standard required for high energy use. Again, they may not be able to round corners easily. Anderson cables come in plastic cases and cannot separate from each other to cause any a problem with polarity.
Best Electric Cars

Tim Partha asked: Electric cars and their advantages versus their disadvantages are an ever-increasing debate. In a country that is so dependent upon petroleum products and convenience it is hard to convince people that there are alternatives to the way we use transportation.
For instance do we really to travel at 75 to 80 miles per hour? If you owned a car that was powered by electricity that you converted yourself from a gas-powered car, you would still get to where you were going just at a bit of a slower speed maybe 50mph instead.
The trade offs to an electric car are, a bit of a slower speed but in turn no emissions, fewer moving parts to wear out, no muffler or fuel tank. You would also have a limited range of about 100 miles between charges. I really don’t need to drive more than 100 miles per day unless I am going to go out of state and then I can always rent a vehicle.
There is also the added advantage of not having to get a tune up or a new muffler. A disadvantage is the cost for a new electric car it is at least in the twelve thousand dollar range. But, if you are even a bit handy you can convert a car using used parts for under one thousand dollars.
Don’t forget the savings in fuel costs. Electricity is a cheaper fuel that gas so you will be driving miles for pennies instead of dollars. This alone would offset the expense of renting a car for longer trips on occasion.

Jim M. Watson asked: An electric car conversion kit can be used to convert your current vehicle to run on electricity. There are many reasons for the increasing popularity of electric powered cars:
You can eliminate your gas bill completely and save hundreds of dollars every month on gas costs. The IRS will give you tax credits for driving a clean fuel vehicle. You will only need about $1 to charge your electric car. You can drive for up to 150-200 miles on a single charge. You can reduce harmful emissions and protect the environment. You can reach speeds of 50 miles per hour. You can improve horsepower and get a better engine’s performance. You can start enjoying a smooth, quiet ride and reduce your maintenance costs.
The major advantage of an electric powered vehicle is not only that it can increase your fuel efficiency, but also it doesn’t contribute to the greenhouse effect and is completely environmentally-friendly.
Paying an auto-shop to make the conversion will cost at least 3,000 dollars, but if you decide to do it yourself it will only cost a few hundred dollars.
The first thing you need to do is take out the internal combustion engine and replace it with an electric motor. Some other parts you are going to need are: a power controller, miscellaneous nuts and bolts, rechargeable batteries, fuses and power conductors. These parts are easily available at your local hardware and are usually very cheap.
Most cars can be converted to run on electricity, but the best vehicles to retrofit are the light weight ones, which have enough space for batteries.
There are many diy on the market that can provide you with step-by-step instructions on how to build your own electric powered car.
Do you want to save more than $1,000 on gas per year, every year?
Every day people just like you are using this technology to convert their vehicles.
