Best Electric Cars

If 100% of your electricity comes from coal, then on a per mile basis your net emissions are 45% to 50% of a gas car. More and more renewable electricity is being added to the grid every day so the percentage of electricity from coal gets less and less. I once saw an online video that stated that an electric car is 95% to 99% cleaner than a gas car. But it was based in California where most of the power is hydroelectric and nuclear.

Electric Car Sales

quite a bit, i don't think that anyone (even Al Gore) can give a number because there is no way to tell in hard numbers. but new cars have come a long way. the big pollutant with electric cars is not the electricity creation its the battery creation, and hybrids are even worse. the strain on an electric or hybrid battery is huge and they only last a few years.
some new gasoline and diesel engines pollute very little, I've heard claims by some manufacturers that the air that goes into the engine is dirtier than the air that comes out.

It depends on how the electricity is generated. Here our power is hydro generated so there isnt any air pollution to speak of.
